A meta-study has revealed that replacing animal-people meat with vegan meat alternatives leads to improved cardiovascular health. Scientists from the University of Granada and Universidad Francisco de Vitoria in Spain collated the results of seven studies conducted in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Singapore published from 1990 to 2024. The studies involved 369 adult participants who substituted animal-people meat with vegan meat alternatives while keeping other dietary habits the same. Within eight weeks or less, the participants’ total cholesterol and LDL (‘bad cholesterol’) levels fell 6% and 12%, respectively, and their body weight decreased by 1%. The researchers say that these changes could be even greater in people with high cholesterol levels or poor heart health.
